What is the Online MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI)?

Online MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI) Recognition

We use the MBSR teacher training curriculum developed by the Mindfulness
Center at Brown University, for which we have a collaborative licensing
agreement.
This Online MBSR TAI is organized by our Centre For Mindfulness Canada, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The successful completion of this Training is fully recognized and acknowledged by the Mindfulness Center, School of Public Health, at Brown University.
The MBSR TAI fulfills the second formal program in the Teacher Training Pathway. It is a program that is part of the Teacher Training Level 1 set by the Mindfulness Center at Brown University.
The diagram on the left is taken from the Mindfulness Centre at Brown University. It outlines the sequence of requirements under the "MBSR Teacher Training Level 1".
After the successful completion MBSR TAI, trainees will have MBSR Qualified Instructor status. They are then authorized to offer the full eight-week MBSR program to the public while entering MBSR Teacher Level 2, where they will receive individual and group mentorship in addition to other education and training requirements before becoming Certified MBSR Instructor.

TAI Requirements
In order to apply to MBSR TAI, applicants need to have all the following pre-requisites:
Please note, the Mindfulness Center at Brown University recommends a minimum of six months between completing MBSR Foundations and Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI) program.
In order to apply to MBSR TAI, applicants need to have all the following pre-requisites:
- Successful Completion of the MBSR Foundations formal program (either 10-Week Online Foundations or 9-day Foundations Residential format)
- Have taught at least three introductory or multi-hour programs based on elements of the MBSR curriculum
- Attendance in at least two 5-7 day silent, teacher-led, qualifying retreats within the last three years
- Maintains a regular, daily mindfulness meditation practice
- Maintains a regular yoga practice.
Please note, the Mindfulness Center at Brown University recommends a minimum of six months between completing MBSR Foundations and Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI) program.

Refund Policy
A refund, less a $100 processing fee, will only be offered for cancellations made 30 days prior to the program start date (i.e., cancellations made by October 4th). After that, refunds or credit will only be offered due to an emergency or extenuating circumstances.
Payment Options
- Interact e-transfer (for within Canada only), wire transfer, money order, check.
- There is no application fee related to submitting the application.
- At least half the tuition fee is due upon acceptance to the TAI program. The balance is then due by September 30th at the latest. Or, you can make one full payment at the time of confirmation of registration.
- Credit card payments available via Square invoicing (with additional $100 CAD processing fee)
- Please do not send any payment until your application has been accepted after the initial meeting is conducted.

About the Instructors
The Fall 2021 TAI will be facilitated by Dr. Kasim Al-Mashat. He is a Registered Psychologist and Certified MBSR Teacher and authorized Teacher Trainer by the Mindfulness Center at Brown University. He is the founder of Center For Mindfulness Canada. Kasim has also completed a six-month meditation retreat in silence in Southeast Asia and presented a TEDx about mindfulness. While MBSR Foundations will be fully facilitated by Dr. Kasim Al-Mashat, we will be joined in a couple of segments by guest presenter Florence Meleo-Meyer. She serves as Global Ambassador to the MBSR Affiliates world-wide at the Mindfulness Center, Brown University and is inspired by the potential of MBSR to impact global health and well-being when taught by teachers trained with rigor, depth, and cultural sensitivity. She has trained MBSR teachers and teacher trainers for over 20 years. As Director of Oasis Institute, for Professional Education and Training at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts’ Medical School, she engaged with and supported the development of thousands of MBSR teachers globally.
